How long is the shelf life of a HEXKOTE product?

HEXKOTE products do not have a shelf life but should be stored in a sealed container prevent exposure to air which would cause the carrier liquid to evaporate rendering the product unusable.

What is the difference between the Tactical, Equipment, and Marine Series products?

HEXKOTE Tactical and Equipment are specially formulated to clean and protect your equipment in most environments. MARINE has additional rust inhibitors not found in the TACTICAL, or EQUIPMENT line of products. If your equipment or gear is, or will be exposed to salt water, high humidity, or highly corrosive environments, HEXKOTE MARINE should be used. This thicker, protective film will dry slightly slower and may leave gloss finishes hazy. This haze (once dry) can be buffed to shine with a clean, dry, lint free cloth, without removing the protection.

How long will HEXKOTE last once it is applied?

When you first start using the product, use it every time you use or handle your equipment. This will ensure that you are getting complete coverage and the active ingredients bond to the pores of the metal. Once your equipment/gear has been thoroughly wiped with HEXKOTE the protection can last up to a year if the item is in storage. If the metal is exposed to wear or extreme conditions you should use HEXKOTE more frequently.

Does HEXKOTE ever expire?

Will HEXKOTE remove rust that is on my equipment?

HEXKOTE will remove very light surface rust. You can use HEXKOTE on a synthetic steel wool to remove surface rust. If the metal has severe rust you will need to use a rust remover. WARNING: Rust removers may remove finishes from metal! Once the rust has been removed, use HEXKOTE to keep the rust from forming again.

Can I use my HEXKOTE treated knife to cut food?

HEXKOTE is a dry bonded protection, if you plan to cut food with a HEXKOTE treated blade, we suggest that you wash or wipe the blade first, then reapply after finished cutting when convenient.

The Needle Applicator on my HEXKOTE .25oz pen is blocked, how can I unblock it?

The wire inside a “twist tie” is the perfect size for reaming the needle. As odd as this may sound, these are commonly found throughout a household. By stripping the paper off of the wire and then inserting into the needle applicator you can quickly clear any obstructions and be back up and running quickly.
